Just to make it clear for everyone. Win2K is really NT5, and is designed for business users. While it does offer better multimedia features and plug n'play support, it is not a gaming platform. Windows millenium, which comes out later this year, is the upgrade for Windows 98, and should provide the stability all the gamers are looking for

Well, this "major big-ass geek" doesn't buy the "not a gaming platform" thing. The platform is wonderful for gaming, IF manufacturers decide to make stable drivers. That is the only factor limiting us now. Already with the latest betas I'm getting better performance in Quake 3 under Win2k than in Win98. I like my new "gaming platform".

MANIAC, I think we all know that's just microsoft marketing ploy crap ! Way back
when WIN2000 was still in beta, it was
advertized as the merger of WIN98 and WIN NT 4.0. Then microsoft realized it may lose alot of business users if it seemed like it
had too may "WIN98 like" features in it. Or maybe WIN98 users would think it's a business
system and they wouldn't buy it. Either way,
there's no reason why WIN2000 can't be a great gaming platform if the driver support
from hardware vendors is there ... Rob_b

Welp. I'm a big-ass geek. Mirrored in my obsessive hardware upgrading.

However, I also think that if manufacturers wanted, they could support win2k gamwise better. But then again, we could also hope for the same thing for Be and Linux. Since we are realists (well, some of us are) we know that gaming oriented stuff will continue to be aimed at people that are to cheap to buy win2k and stick with win98 or winme.

But then again, I could be wrong.
A computer is like sex. Your never 100% sure what your doing but when all goes well, it feels REAL good.
