  • Netgear NIC FA310TX (network adapter)

    Hi,

I am searching a good networking device to start a home network. I was planning to pick 2 3Com network adapters or D-Link but someone pointed me out Netgear instead... Is it a good NIC (FA310TX)? At least, they are VERY cheap (15$US). I think I will pick a FB104 starter kit if those cards are good enough. Do I need a hub when I want to hook up 2 computers on a network with RJ-45 NIC?

    Thanks for any help.

I've had great luck with a Linksys switched kit. I've seen then available for under $100US. The kit includes 2 NICs and a 5 port switch (better than a hub). Good kit.

If you are only going to network 2 PCs you don't need a hub or switch. You need to get a cross-over (not a standard patch) cable. You use it to hook the them NIC to NIC, and are all set.

    Just a couple of options.

      Hi,

I have a Netgear FA310TX NIC and haven't had any problems with it at all. It's spoken to many and varied other NIC's through Kingston switches & Hubs, Samsung switches and a generic 10Mb hub.

The card itself quite happily changes between 10/100MB and is capable of full duplex.

Overall, they don't seem to bad for the price...
