Dial-up here costs MORE than 500 kbit/s "broad"band or even our "superfastest 2 Mbit/s" if you use it more than a few hours/month.

Right off hand I'd say the takeaway message here is "don't buy stock in NetZero."

        Ah, dialup...
To hear those dtmf tones of the modem, the crackle and white noise, the "brrr" followed by the "beep" to acknowledge the connection.
To see those lights flicker on that little black box on the desktop...
To open a serial terminal and communicate with a machine (ok, all it says is OK, but still).
        Those were the days...

And don't get me started on mobile dialup:
The balancing act of lining up the ir ports of my cellphone and my Psion
The joy of a mobile connection at an amazing 9600 bps...
(yep, I had mobile internet in 2000)
        Gone are those moments...

But seriously: is it some belated April fools joke?

Hey VJ, your poem doesn't rhyme!

I didn't check the date, I just assumed it was a slip of the tongue.

              Speaking of modems...
It was a quiet day at the office, working away designing networks, talking to clients when all of a sudden I heard a loud disturbing yet familiar set of dtmf tones that wreaked havoc across the office floor.

I yelled "well that brought back memories" and immediately asked the guy to find the AT commands to lower the volume hehe.
He did and never heard those tones again hehe.
