Sounds like a sure sign of a flakey DIMM.

In other words, a little more system info would be helpful. Any other cards, modem, network, etc. (with brand names) and what slots they are in. Motherboard model, too.

But first and easiest is to turn off DMA on your CD/DVD-ROM drive in Device Manager. If that doesn't fix it, then your system details would be helpful.

A non-hardware solution may be a virus or a faulty OS install. If you do not have a virus scanner installed you can download a free trial version @ www.mcafee.com or www.symantec.com .

Just curious, your G400 is recognised in the device manager as a Matrox G400 or as a GA-MGA400 ?

Funny thing; this reboot happens to me sometimes when I start up a game under Windows 2000. But only sometimes. And usually at the time I have Agent downloading something in the background. Bizarre, but it doesn't happen too often.
