  • Installing Matrox drivers on Suse 11.2

    Hello,

I just installed a Suse 11.2 on my old system, and am trying to install the matrox display drivers. Compilation works, but the installation then fails with this:
    Code:
     Compiling mtx.ko ... done.

     Installing mtx.ko ...
     Backing up libGL
Installing 32bits OpenGL library file to /usr/lib
     Installing libGL.so.1.3.0 ...
Installing the GLX library file to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions

     Installing libglx.so ...
Installing the gl.h header file to /usr/include/GL

     Installing gl.h ...
Installing the glext.h header file to /usr/include/GL

     Installing glext.h ...
Installing the glx.h header file to /usr/include/GL

     Installing glx.h ...
     Updating library cache

     Installing documentation

cp: cannot stat `v4l': No such file or directory
     Installing powerdesk

     Installing mtxcards ...
     Installing mtxwizard ...
     Installing matroxconfig ...
     Installing libmtxcfg.so ...
Do you wish to let the installer setup your X config file (y/n)? y

ERROR: Could not setup your X config file (unknown_location).
Verify that the file is valid.

     Installation finished
Nevertheless, I tried to run matroxconfig:
    Code:
Xlib: extension "MTXCFG" missing on display ":0.0".
    Extension MTXCFG cannot be found
You must have a server layout section filled with input devices.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Suse 11.2 no longer has an xorg.conf. It uses kind of auto config.
I had a similar problem configuring multi display with nvidia-settings.
Go to /etc/X11 and type "touch xorg.conf" to create an empty xorg.conf file. Then try to install again.

    Cheers

Is there a log file somewhere so you can figure out what "v41" is?

i think "v4l" is "video for linux" stuff, eg video capture/tv tuner system

              Thanks!
I've been more looking into my raid-controller problem, as I really need it to work... it may be a reason to change distributions over.

No luck in getting the raid controller to work in either Suse 11.2 or FreeBSD 8.0... It has drivers for lower versions though, so either it is back to Windows, or try an older linux distribution...
