GM to start battery pack production in Brownstown Township
General Motors announced today that it will begin battery pack production at its new Brownstown Township factory on Thursday.
The lithium ion battery packs will be used in the Chevrolet Volt electric car, which is slated to begin production later this year.
GM Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre will be joined by U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and Gov. Jennifer Granholm to watch battery production begins Thursday, the company said.
The plant was announced nearly a year ago at the 2009 Detroit auto show.
