VHS to DVD stand alone recorder.

I had never researched this topic since I do have one old & one brand new Video rig at home, but…

Is there a stand alone DVD recorder or VHS/DVD combo that has filters to improve color and picture quality when transferring from VHS???

AFAIK the DVD/VHS combos will allow backups, but not with any enhancing tech.

there should be companies that can put VHS on DVD.

I'm looking to get the Blackadder VHS collection that has never been opened transferred to DVD if they will.
I suspect its only for home videos and the like.

I can do that myself. But capturing to PC, loading it into Video Editor and compiling DVD takes too long for what I need to do.

I have a friend that has over 200 tapes in Hi8 & VHS format. While VHS is no problem, his Hi8 Cam crapped out. Even if he buys a used cam right now, soon he’ll have no way to play those tapes back once all those Hi8 devices (and VHS soon after that) will disappear forever. I want to set him up with something simple and inexpensive, something he can handle himself.

Couple Video enchancements (tape noise reduction mainly) would be nice.

Do these combos permit copying commercial PAL VHS tapes to DVD, overcoming the Macrovision?

It doesn’t make a difference for my friend since his only problem is the noise from his degraded (old) camcorder tapes.

Thanks, that's what I thought. It seems daft having to use a computer just to copy a few hundred VHS videos!

With TB hard drives selling for $70, using a computer to capture and archive to hard drives may not be so daft. They can lager be "enhanced" in an editor should the value someday warrant it.
