  • Spider!

This little bugger paid us a visit. Don't know the species (anyone?), it had a leg span of about 7.5 cm. I don't think its fangs would make it dangerous. The spiky bristles on its legs are intriguing (urticating defence???)

Did you get a peek at it's underside?

Could it be an Argiope http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argiope_%28spider%29

Looks pretty much like a smaller brother to those that lives in my back yard.

Kind of strange with the spikes tho. Cant remember having seen those before.

Spiders have 'em to manipulate their webs etc., but they're not always that large especially in males who tend to be smaller anyhow.

Just took a picture of one in my garden. This one (its a He, btw) is just big enough to rest confidently on a sunny spot on the wall.

I think he's outgrown most of the earlier enemies, but is not yet big enough to warrant interest from the bigger birds.
