  • PIII Price Cuts

    Some news from AGHardware:

"According to Intel's pricing list, the 750-MHz Pentium III was cut 7% to $744, while the 733-MHz part dropped 21% to $594. OEMs have complained that all products above 733-MHz have been extremely difficult to come by, and analysts suspected that Intel's supply may have increased marginally to justify the demand that the price reductions are expected to spur.

"Intel also cut the 700-MHz Pentium III by 23% to $562, and the 667-MHz product fell by the same amount to $449. Pricing in the high-volume "sweet spot" of the Pentium III segment dropped the most dramatically: the 650-MHz Pentium III was cut 25% to $423; the 600-MHz product fell 29%; and the 550-MHz version fell to $241, down 31%. The price of the low-end 533-MHz Pentium III dropped 25% to $214, while Intel cut its 500-MHz version by 16% to $193.

"Intel also lowered the prices of its new Coppermine Xeon chips, all with 256 Kbytes of on-chip Level 2 cache. The 733-MHz version fell 20% to $644, and the 667-MHz part was cut 21% to $499. The 600-MHz version was reduced by 14% to $425. Only the new 800-MHz part remained unchanged, with prices holding steady at $901."

Lowest I've seen through www.pricewatch.com is $596 USD for the 700E. The 2 lowest price places have no stock.

Those are wholesale prices, I believe, and it frequently takes a week or so for the price cuts to sink in.

PIII 600 prices have been dropping for about a week.
