  • Slot 1 + coppermine + bf6 ??

Does the coppermine come in a slot 1 or do I hafta get a slotkit for it ? I love my bf6 mobo and I run my p3 450 at 600 or 620 rock solid with a global win cooler. If I do need a slotkit will my slot1 cooler work ,I hate to scrap it.Im thinkin about a 550 X 133 bus for 731 to 750.. Wacha Think Guys an Gals

The "E" type Coppermines are Slot 1 and 100MHz FSB speed and will work in your BF6. Just be sure to install the latest Bios "PO" from ABIT first. If your using ATA/66 hard drives set the mode to PIO 3 in the High Point Bios page when booting.

This is confusing. At least some "E's" are FC-PGA, although they all run on the 100 MHz bus. The 500E, 550E, and 600E for instance, are all 100 MHz FC-PGA and require a socketed motherboard or a slocket with Coppermine support.

I think "B" designates a Slot 1 CPU that runs on a 133 MHz front side bus. "EB" designates a FC-PGA 133 MHz FSB CPU.

You probably want a PIII 550E (that's a socket CPU) with a slocket *and* a new fan. Intel is expected to have a big price cut at the end of this month and prices are already beginning to drop at the retail level in anticipation. You might want to wait a week or two.

Correction: The 600E will be available, supposively, in both Slot 1 and FC-PGA formats. Intel is currently listing it as a Slot 1 processor although Thresh's Firingsquad reviewed a FC-PGA chip.

However, the PIII 500E and 550E are both FC-PGA (socket) processors.

Bummer .. Im thinkin that a 133 starting bus would kill my chances of ocing very far.The 600 slot 1 sounds like a good choice if its not too pricey..I guess we'll see how low they go ..So is Intel trying to phase out the slot 1 ?? Hmmmmmm
          Thanks for the info ..Matt

You could always pick up the slocket and get the PIII 550E. That runs on a 100 MHz bus. I'd imagine the 550E will be pretty cheap in a couple of weeks.

The 133 MHz Coppermines all end in a "B," whether it be "B" alone or "EB." And on a BX board, your chances of overclocking aren't great (low multiplier/high bus speed). I ordered a slocket in anticipation of the 600E FC-PGA finally appearing, although I just noticed there is no mention of it on Intel's site.

I hope the folks at Firingsquad didn't just set the multiplier on an engineering sample to six and assume there would be a FC-PGA version. Since the announcement of the different flavors of PIII's, there has been a preposterous amount of misreporting about them on a number of hardware sites.

              Holy Shit!!! That got confusing....LOL

I know that the 650 and 700 slot1's have been working great. The 500 and 550 have been doing good too using the IWill Slotkit.

My 700E(slot1) runs great at 124MHz FSB. The interesting thing is that at 133MHz FSB my BE6 Bios shows it as a 933EB processor. At 124MHz it shows it as a 868E.
