  • 4870 Primary display + 8800GTS as PhysX ?

    No.

The GeForce card will only activate PhysX if an Nvidia card is being used as a display card.
Also, the PhysX will only work on the PRIMARY display which is connected to the Nvidia card.

Wow. What a good way to kill a good way to sell low to mainstream cards.

Now they've bought PhysX, there will be no more PhysX cards.
So how are the ATi/AMD crowd supposed to get the goods ?

PhysX will die because of this fatal flaw.

Shame, it would indeed be nice...

Asus still lists dedicated PhysX cards on their website though...

Well, I have both cards installed and overclocked...just to see if the PSU can handle it...
Rivatuner doesn't keep the Nv overclock if I restart the machine...
And the fan control on the 4870 went back to auto, while i was still overclocked on that too...

I'm a bit miffed F@H doesn't work properly, it tries to run it and then puts an error message. "Folding at home has run into a serious error running the core. and will shutdown."

here is the log file bit "

                    YES.
Badaboom works on the ATi screen, since you can choose which GPU to use to do the encode...
It is not possible to choose, the ATi card, well it is, but it doens't give its name and it won't work anyway...

Just encoding the first two chapters of Superman returns DVD into 1280x720...its above real time 37.2-38fps average,...7600kbps

One thing with badaboom, it encodes into h264 AFAIK.
This IS accellerated by most GPU's, whereas x264 is not, which is used in a lot of .mkv files...

it might be worth transcoding for less powerful machines with capable GPU's for hardware acceleration....

The post is extremely basic...lol ("Yes it can work...XP or Win7...)

I couldn't get it working in XP at all, unless the Nv screen was used to display....
Definately couldn't dedicate the card to PhysX, thats 100% sure....
Will be trying some games in Win7 this weeekend, and will try PhysX also...

haven't tried a huge amount in Win7, since Rivatuner has a hard time, and I can only change the fanspeed for the ATi card...and cannot really overclock either card yet in Win7....

I'd like a site to actually try it and show it working....
The lowest possible Nv card for PhysX is a 8-series card, which is probably 8600 and upwards....
