  • Back on Matrox Powaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

    Wohoo.
got my G450 PCi yesterday at work, and the new extra 17in screen so I can do Dualhead, and actually work properly, instead of constantly switching between windows...

    Great for you!

At work, I "confiscated" an unused 17" lcd and connected as second monitor to the NVidia 9600 (passive!)... Monitor setup is 24" (1920x1200) and a 17" (1280x1024).

      Back To The Future

To be honest I still have rigs with their APVe cards. Great for editing.

We still not only use them at work - but still buy new ones!

Granted they are $$$ frame-grabbers and not used for powering displays, but they're still Matrox.

That would be an interesting poll:

How old is your oldest currently in use vid card?

Mine is a Voodoo3 PCI that I have in our file/print "server" at home.

It does not have a monitor attached except when doing maint or repairs that can't be done by remote desktop.

PS oldest Matrox in use is the G450 in Becky's computer.

My oldest in use is a G550 AGP (in my dad's Pentium-II).
I'm still running a Parhelia (first version) in my main system.

My original Rainbow Runner Studio/Mystique. Damned thing just won't die, so Erik is using it for vidcap in an old box.

the oldest in use, is a TNT2 m64 agp at home.....

edit : I also have a handful of G200 AGP's lying around doing nothing...can't bring it upon myself to throw anything out...

edit2 : The G450 seems to be a PCIe native one, with a PLX translation chip for the PCI bus...
Its passively cooled, and gets bitching hot in the NEC Powermate VL6 I have at work, with very very little ventilation...only the PSU fan as extractor...

I have several G200 at work, and two G400DHs, couple G200s, one G200MMS and RRG laying around the house, waiting for appropriate hosts.

I'm still using my old G400 Marvel in the family room computer. Still captures beautifully.

Evildead, my G450 PCI also runs very hot...and does this for a few years without any problems.

So it would seem it's "normal"...

I still have Millennium PCI in my fileserver. I miss 3 monitors, now IL2 Sturmovik is only 10 Euros or so on Steam.

Millenium PCI here in my 'box of bit' used for troubleshooting - when I need a PCI card.

My oldest box is currently running with a g400 - but has no monitor attached (a smoothwall server in the roofspace - havent attached a monitor to it in at least a year

Everything current with a discrete video card is an ATI. I have had 1 older 'powercolor' ATI card literally catch fire (well, smolder, smoke and everything!) inside one of the PC's here (a shuttle - v small and hot case). I only once had a matrox card fail - (a g100) and not more than 2 DOA - I bought perhaps 70 + Matrox cards when I used to build PC's....
