  • ABit BE6-2 mobo, Celeron or P3?

I'm planning on making a new system with a BE6-2, and was wondering where I can get an adapter to put a Celeron 500 in the slot 1 plug.

Or do you think I'd be better just to get a P3? I'll probably not be able to upgrade my RAM (64 megs, 66MHz, overclocked to 83 with my K6-300/333) for a little while, and wasn't sure if a P3 would like running at 66/83 instead of 100.

Hmm... I regret ever getting the "other" 64 megs my current system has, 60ns EDO SIMM's. :-( Oh well, live and learn I guess.

    Hi Jon,

I am planning on buying a P3-550e (socket 370), and getting the slotket adapter from HERE it will support both the celery and the P3. the P3-XXXe's are very overclockable, much more so than the current celeries.

      Ouch, those are expensive! :-)

Another little thing I'm concerned with about getting a 370->slot1 adapter is cooling. Will a normal SECC heatsink fit on the adapter, or do you use a 370/SS7 sink/fan?

buy a celeron. running a p3 at a lower bus speed than 100 is a waste of money. eg a 500mhz p3 will become a 415 at 83mhz which is, quite frankly, poo. Instead of a 500 you could tr the 400 or 433 and oc a little to get the 500mhz you really want.

Good results here with a IWill slocketII and 550e. (the como rocks Rags)

They would use a S370 HSF.

But I'm running the retail HSF at 133FSB

I've decided to break and get RAM too, might as well while the prices aren't too high.

Are the FC-PGA P3's the same as the SECC2 ones, at least in performance?

MHz for MHz they should be. Just 'cheaper' packaging. Also just try to find a 'slower' 500-550 SECC2. Intel has plans to stop SECC2, and eventualy move all P3s to FC-PGA.
