    Help

My Soundblaster 1024 live seems to be getting feedback from somewhere in my machine, it seems to be related to the movement on my MS Imtellipoint USB mouse..

    any ideas.

    Two ideas:
    1) IRQ conflict? Is the Live! sharing resources? Let's see the interrupts.

    2) A bus-mastering issue? I don't know how you would fix it, but I used to have a similar problem with my G200 and AWE64. Screen activity was audible b/c the G200 would hold on to the bus for too long.

Wow, this has got to be the 10th time I've ran into messages indicating this problem in the last 24 hours (been looking for info on how to get SMP to work w/ my Live and Win2k)... check out creative's newsgroup, you'll see at least a half dozen other ppl w/ your problem.

And all w/ the same card as you.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "Soundblaster 1024 live"?

I've got a SB Live Value, a SB Live X-Gamer, and a SB PCI 512. I've heard of the SB Live, and the SB Live MP3, but nothing with a "1024" in the SB line.

Back in the old ancient days, I had a lot of feedback from my machine with my SB v1.5, all 8 bits and AdLib compatible. I could hear feedback from hard disk, etc.

Are the USB and SB-Live sharing an IRQ? What kind of motherboard do you have?

Thunderchez, the MP3+ and the X-Gamer are not available outside N.A. They have the SB 1024. Same hardware, and yet a 3rd software package, I believe.

I have moved the Card to PCI slot4 so it is now using irq12, his has helped a little, as i do not seem to be getting so much feedback now.

              Thanks everyone

Wombat, thanks for clearing me up on that. When I went to "www.soundblaster.com", it automagically forwarded me to the north america site, and no SB 1024 Live was listed there. Sometimes I don't like it when it knows better than I do.

If I go to www.creative.com, I can select the "Europe" region, and now I see the SB Live Player 1024.

Moving the card around is a good idea. Someone said that the shorter the distance the signal has to travel to the chipset, the less interference is likely. Of course moving the card around will likely change the interrupt so have fun.

Don'k now if this'll help, but...I ran into the same situation today (did a complete reformat/reinstall of everything).

I have a voice/fax modem connected to the soundcard. Open up the standard volume control on the task bar (not the SB Live icon) and under options, selecte Playback control. Click the boxes for microphone and TAD in so that these both come up under Playback options. Click MUTE on the microphone.

Under the Recording section, have the microphone as the selected device.

This eliminated the background noise for me
