  • Need 4-port PCI RAID card (SATA)

Dunno what the good brands are. It'll probably be running Linux. Software RAID, probably RAID 5 using 3x640GB WD.

I have a P4 2ghz 512mb DDR sittin here begging to be used as a file server.

I'd probably just want to spend 40-60 on the card tops. Doesn't need to be fast, just needs to be somewhat reliable.

Something like this sounds like just what you are looking for:

    http://addonics.com/products/host_co...er/adsa4r5.asp

It is a Silicon Image 3124 Sata II controller. This chip has some of the best
support in libata. It was the first controller to receive port multiplier support.

I've used the PCI-X eSata version of this card in a number of servers at work. Nice
cards. The "RAID 5" support on these cards is an in-driver RAID 5. For linux, just
    use the software raid.

      Thanks for the reply.

I'm trying to cut down on the number of PC's running in my house. I've actually decided to go with a NAS solution now, which also has a print server, as thats all I need it for.
Should be here next week (while I am away in BC). I'll post an update in about 2 weeks.

Anyone know of a combo Firewire (Preferably 800)/SATA PCI Express card?
