  • "Watchmen" trailer - WOW!!!!

For those not familiar with "Watchmen" it is a series of graphic novels that, considered as a whole, was the only graphic novel to appear on Time Magazine's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present." To say it's a classic is a vast understatement. VERY character driven.

    Doctor Manhattan looks FANTASTIC!!

    Link...(105 mb 720p Quicktime)

Jezzzz.....graphic novel and comic flicks just keep on hammering the industry, don't they?

    Some stills....

    Comedian
    (commando ops)

Doctor Manhattan (god-like powers: self duplication, subatomic matter control, teleportation etc.)

Night Owl II (maybe the least screwed-up of the bunch)

Ozymandias (rich kid plays superhero - smart & driven)

Rorschach (the Ayn Rand fan of the bunch: top investigator, ruthless)

Silk Spectre I (mother: combat specialist)

Silk Spectre II (daughter: combat specialist)

Hmm in the one shot they are still showing the WTC in NYC....
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

That's because Watchmen takes place in the 80s.

Hmmm....looks really really good, but the mother and child 'Spectres' have a 7 year (real) age difference....
I mean, just by their looks, they are pretty close in age...what is it ? No fat/old/ugly ho's allowed..?

Just there seems to be a lot of films with 'Fit' heroes and heroines and such...F4..Xmen...
The probability of only handsome, fit and ,usually, well-off people being 'the good guys' all the time is pretty small...

Why aren't we having more 'normal' people...?
Hancock is a very good example for instance...
Heroes was pretty close, somehow Lost, well ,Lost it...

anyhoo, just a little vent, the film looks great, and i can't wait to see it

edit: in the first pic i thought it was robert downey junior...

I don't think the shots of the Silk Spectre's are suposed to be depicting the the same time.

Well.... apart from the fact that an overweight "superhero" probably don't last that long,

In the comic, all of these "heroes" was normal looking people

Night owl was definitly fighting the beergut,

Rosharsh has a definite reason to wear the mask

Dr. manhattan, well, is not normal on any plane..

If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

I wish more movie adaptions would let the story stay in the time period it was in instead of "takes place now" modified.

Literally my favorite graphic novel ever. I'm glad they did Roschach's mask justice.. I've always worried about that if they made it a movie. Funny out that Entertainment Weekly uses the first Silk Spectre on the cover. The second SS was a MUCH bigger role in the book.

I'm really looking forward to this movie.

But they didn't use Silk Spectre I/Sally Jupiter (Carla Gugino - the lovely Lucille from Sin City) on the cover. Silk Spectre II/Laurie Juspeczyk (Malin Akerman - Entourage & 27 Dresses) is on the cover.

Double-check the cover vs. the pictures above.

                        Also;

The trailers theme music is Smashing Pumpkin's "The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning", which IMO fits perfectly.

Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma etc.) has responded to the Watchmen trailer on his View Askew Productions forum. He's a long time fan of Watchmen.

When I first read "The Watchmen" back in 1988, I never imagined I'd one day see a trailer that slavishly faithful to the source material.

I have to agree with Kevin Smith on this. I've ALWAYS worried that this was going to suck if made into a movie. I don't know if the panel for panel style of Sin City is good for this but I'll take it over chopping up the story six ways from Sunday and leaving out a lot of good backstory and detail.

For how dense the graphic novel is it's very self contained and they should be able to include most if not all of it.
