    Hi!

    I managed to o/c my K6-III 400 to 448(112x4) or 450(100x4.5) @ original 2.4v very stable.
    Using AsusP5A rev1.04 latest 1009 BIOS and settings for 95, 100, 105, 112, 115 & 120Mhz FSB available on mobo.

    Tried 504(112x4.5) @ 2.5v and 2.6v and neither one POST. I was probably too hopeful...But you'll never know if you didn't try at all!!

    Tried 472(105x4.5) @ 2.5v and 2.6v but both unable to get passed "Starting Windows98..."

    Cooling problem or insufficient voltage? Will 2.7v be too high?
    Possible if I o/c higher than what I've already achieved?

    Pls share experience with o/c K6-III, thanx.

    The 2.4 volt versions of both the 400 and 450 are not very overclockable. Some lucky 400 users have gotten 5x100, but not too many. My 2.4 volt K6-III 450 will not overclock very well. I can get it to 500 by setting the memory timimgs in the mobo bios to normal and CAS to 3 and the voltage to 2.7 volts. But with the faster memory timings, I can't use anything except 4.5x100. Heat is not a problem. My CPU stays around 45 degrees C even at 500, but its just not stable. If I try 500 with the faster memory timings, it will boot, but I get tons of registry errors and crashes. Its not worth it.

    If you are getting 450, that's pretty good for a 400. Stick with the 4x112 for the best results, especially if you can keep memory at a fast setting and CAS at 2.

    If you really want to overclock one of these you need to get the 2.2 volt version. A lot more people are successful getting those 400's up to 500. Better yet, just keep with your 400 at 448 until the 500's come out next week.

      Funny, i have never even seen a K6-III that specifies a core voltage of 2.4 only 2.2!

        K6-2's are generally 2.2 volts. The K6-III's were 2.4 volts until this fall. The extra 0.2 volts were needed to run the extra cache on the chip that wasn't on the K6-2's. Since fall, AMD has been making the K6-III's with the .23 micron Athlon process and they got the voltage down to 2.2 volts.
