With the launch of the mid-range GeForce 9600 GT marking the debut of Nvidia's GeForce 9-series, graphics card makers have revealed details of the rest of the cards Nvidia is scheduled to launch in the coming months.

At the top-end of the 9-series cards will sit the dual-GPU GeForce 9800 GX2 which will launch on March 11 this year. This will be followed by the GeForce 9800 GTX and 9800 GT between the end of March and beginning of April.

For the mid-range Nvidia will offer the GeForce 9600 GS in May, according the sources.

In June, the company will launch the value-level GeForce 9500 GT based on the G96 graphics core with a reduced 128-bit memory interface. To complete the series, the GeForce 9500 GS will launch in July.

Nvidia's share of the discrete entry-level graphics card market (US$30-90) has shrunk to less than 3%. Therefore, Nvidia will not target this market with 9-series products in the near-term, and instead will promote the increasing performance of its IGP chipsets.

Nvidia declined to opportunity to respond saying it cannot comment on unannounced products.
I will be looking at getting 1-2 of the 9800 GT/GTX/GX2 in May.

You'll be cpu limited in almost every case if you are single core...

My Pentium D isn't powerful enough to drive my 8800gts 640Mb fully...

A cheap quad core PC, and a good graphics card is the way to go atm in my opinion...

Something to note, and something that I almost totally forgot about - if I wanna go SLI, I can't use an Intel chipset (X38/X48). But I could get dual GPU w/ an Intel chipset if I got the GX2.

That suprises me... I would have guessed it to be more expensive (don't get me wrong, still a lot for a video card, but less than I would have anticipated). Price range of the single GPU would logically be some 60 % of this dual GPU card...

From the unofficial benchmarks and ramblings I found on the hardocp forums, seems like the 9800GX2 is having the same kinda driver issues that the 7950X2 had (wheras the 3870X2 just works out of the box, no need to enable xfire etc). Where the GX2 works properly, it beats the 3870X2, where it doesn't, it gets spanked.

My hope is that the 9800GTX will be priced only slightly higher than the 8800GTS 512mb, and will be cooler, more efficient, and have more overclocking headroom. Which seems to be the word on the street.

I'm looking at the cards as I'm planning on building a htpc later this year... The fact that the upcoming range runs cooler is most interesting to me (silent cooling )

                    Some benchmarks!!!
The 9800 GX2 has shown up on our doorstep and Shane thought it was time to take it for a ride through XP and Vista.

Looks like it out performs the 3870X2, especially in Windows XP. Not a huge gap though. Tweaktown didn't really seem super impressed with it though - I think probably because even though it is now the "single" fastest card you can buy, it comes with a hefty price tag.

Looks pretty good. Pricing should be just above 8800GTS 512 (I doubt more than $50, although you can find some pretty good deals on the GTS 512).
Only thing I find strange is that the 8800GTX and Ultra perform worse than the GTS 512 in many benchmarks...
It will apparently be cooler and more power efficient than the GTS 512 (and obviously much more than the GTX/Ultra). Shaping up to be a pretty decent card, as long its available enough so that the price doesn't get pushed close to 400 USD. 300 USD would be sweet, but more likely 350.

Its a sad day when you realize how excited you are getting about lots of reviews likely coming this week. Oh well.
I've seen many guesses as to when NDAs will be up for the GX2 and GTX, they may vary a bit, but they all pretty much say BEFORE April.

Final 9800GTX Specs, and it will be released March 25th.

                            Shader Units: 128
                            Core Clock: 675MHz vs. the 8800GTS' 650MHz
                            Shader Clock: 1688MHz
                            Memory Clock: 1100MHz
                            Memory Buffer: 512MB GDDR3
                            Memory Interface: 256-bit
                            Outputs: 2 X Dual-Link DVI & HDTV
HD 1080p display support & HDCP
                            PCIe 2.0

Looks like it is just a slightly overclocked 8800GTS. But, rumor is that apparently it won't be as power hungry, or as hot, and have more OC'ing headroom.
