Generally beats out both of ATIs single GPU offerings (3850 and 3870), and performance is just below that of the 8800GT 512mb. Easily the most powerful midrange card we've seen in a long time (maybe since the ti4200 or 9500pro). The only problem is, the 8800GTs are so damn cheap!
MSRP for the 9600GT is ~170-190 USD, but right now retailers are more like 190-200 -- which is 8800GT range.

Priced at $150, this card would sell like hotcakes.

Nvidia has announced the GeForce 9600 GT today. Based on the G94 GPU, it's designed to hit a mainstream pricepoint of around £120 - will the retailers meet that price and, more importantly, will it perform well enough against some stiff competition? Read on to find out.

    Some pricing:
    NCIX.com in CAD

For reference, stock speeds 650/1800, and MIR = Mail-in Rebate

    EVGA "Superclocked" 675/1800 $180
    EVGA "SSC" 740/1950 $200 (after $10 MIR)
    XFX "XT" 680/1900 $210
    XFX Stock $200
    PNY Stock $180
    Palit Stock $195
    Palit "Sonic" 700/2000 $230
    Galaxy "KFA2" 675/2000 $190

IMO the EVGA ones are your best bet. Good price/clock ratio, and they are still under warranty if you wanna overclock em more, or change the HSF!

BUT, the 8800GT can be found only only a little bit more, and offers superior performance. Other the other hand, power consumption and heat product are much lower with the 9600.
