    I have no idea why the top lifts up.

    According to the features list:
    - Convertible top panel for better ventilation
    - Hydraulic mechanisms for the top and side panel

    Weird, I think it is just to be able to add another feature (?)...

              why even have a case, when all sides can be opened for better ventilation?

                I knew a guy who felt that the only purpose for a case was to prevent foreign material from accidentally entering the motherboard space.

                He just put a fence around his motherboard, which was on static-proofing, grounded, and whatnot.

                But this was back when you could make a quiet machine, and didn't have 500 fans attached to every component.
