  • Strange!? - SB LIVE! & G400 = same IRQ

    Hi there hardware-gurus!
My SB live! 1024 player is on IRQ9 together with my G400 MAX.
There is no problem really, noo conflicts or crashes but I think it´s strange that they share a IRQ.
The dos compability is on IRQ 5. How should I do to delete my dos compability and change my SB live! to IRQ 5.
Should I do it or leave it like this?
    This is how it looks:

IRQ 5 - SB 16 emulation (SB LIVE DOS COMP)
    IRQ 9 - SB LIVE! 1024 player
    IRQ 9 - MATROX G400 MAX

put that SB Live in another PCI slot... this should reassign your IRQ's... just don't leave it with the G400....

      OK... thanks, problem solved!
I also had to force the SB from IRQ 10 to IRQ 5 in BIOS. No problem.

Why did you do that for? IRQ 5 is actually lower in priority than 10.

IRQ 5 is just fine for a soundcard.

I wanted to change from IRQ 10 to 5 cause my USB has IRQ 10 as default.
Also...Zwisch is right: IRQ 5 is just fine for a soundcard.

My SBLive! and G400 share the same IRQ (12) - No problems whatsoever.

SB Live Value and G200 on IRQ 11(Windows Multimedia IRQ if you read the system screen) and no problems at all. Although I put the Live on the PCI slot furthest from the AGP slot to avoid IRQ sharing but it works, so go figure.

It all depends on the MBs, some just handel IRQ shairing much better than others. It's just generaly a good idea to have BUSMASTERING devices on thier own IRQ. If it works shairing, great. But for many it has caused problems, and is an "easy" thing to avoid.

There can be a problem whith shared a IRQ if you for example install a set of wheels or a joystick whith force feedback. This may cause conflicts. My suggestion would be to change IRQ so that you always have only one device per IRQ, even if you dont have any conflicts.
