O.J. Simpson Arrested in Armed Robbery of Las Vegas Hotel Room

LAS VEGAS — O.J. Simpson was arrested Sunday on charges related to the armed robbery of Simpson sports memorabilia from a Las Vegas hotel room, Las Vegas police said Sunday.

Lead investigator Lt. Clint Nichols said Sunday that Simpson had played a "substantial role" in the incident and that in earlier interviews with the police, Simpson had provided information that "changed the course of the investigation."

Nichols said Simpson was taken into custody at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas without incident. Bail is expected to be set later Sunday.

Earlier Sunday, Las Vegas police seized two firearms and arrested another man allegedly involved in the robbery, authorities said Sunday.

Freshly Squeezed O.J.
In the news, O.J. Simpson is in jail for trying to reclaim some items in Las Vegas that an alleged thief stole from him. If O.J. is found guilty of asking a thief to return his belongings, he could go to jail for 30 years.

I assume O.J. is kicking himself for not killing everyone in the room, covering himself in their DNA, and going golfing. You have to stick with what works. What the Hell was he thinking?

This incident should be good for the reputation of Las Vegas. They pride themselves on being a place where activities that are normally immoral or illegal are encouraged. In Las Vegas, you can gamble all day, have sex with a stranger, and, apparently, steal her watch. In Las Vegas, it’s illegal for her to ask you to return it.

Unfortunately for O.J., his old attorney Johnny Cochrane has passed away. He’s the one who coined the phrase “If the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” In my opinion, that rhyme freed O.J. I recall reading a study that says people perceive things that rhyme to be more persuasive than things that don’t. Who will create the new rhyme that sets O.J. free? I have a few suggestions.

“If he reclaimed his own shit, you must acquit!”

“If he didn’t get rough, you must uncuff!”

“If he has a bad knee, you must set him free!”

That’s why I’m not a lawyer. Do you have anything better?

The good part is that in Nevada the judge can impose consecutive sentences instead of concurant sentences. This means that 2 convictions x 30 years is 60 years instead of 30 years as in many states.

Him being 60 either would be the life sentence he should have got in the first place.

Determined not to be upstaged by the Goldman family's publication of If I Did It, O.J. Simpson's "hypothetical" memoir of wife-beating and double homicide, Simpson announced today that HarperCollins, a unit of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., will publish a sequel, If I Robbed Him: That Son-Of-A-Bitch Is Lucky To Be Alive After He Stole My Damn Souvenirs. On the day of publication, Simpson will be interviewed about the book on Fox News by L. Gordon Crovitz, publisher of the Wall Street Journal, prefatory to the book's serialization in the Far Eastern Economic Review. In a unique compensation arrangement, News Corp. has contracted with the German/Russian firm Eurockot to launch into outer space 5 million Swiss francs plus two pairs of John Lobb elephant-skin golf shoes in size 12 (if the shoe doesn't fit, someone's lip will get split). The rocket will carry O.J.'s book advance to the Andromeda galaxy, where it will be stored in a black hole that is believed to lie outside the jurisdiction of the $33.5 million civil judgment against Simpson in 1997.

If the Goldman family has its way, it may wind up owning the sports memorabilia Simpson is accused of committing armed robbery to recover for himself.
Since winning a multimillion-dollar settlement against Simpson in Ron Goldman's death, the family has waged a decade-long campaign to track down and claim Simpson's assets.

They've added first degree kidnapping with a weapon and conspiracy to commit kidnapping to all the other charges. In Nevada restraining someone against their will can be considered kidnapping. Planning it beforehand is the conspiracy.

Kidnapping can carry a life sentence.

In addition to that one of the victims has suffered a heart attack. If he dies and the stress of events can be tied to it manslaughter could also be added to the charges.

Putting it mildly this prosecutor is loaded for bear.

Former American football star O.J. Simpson has been charged with eight offenses, including kidnapping and armed robbery, court documents showed Tuesday.

Simpson, an iconic sports star who was dramatically acquitted of brutally murdering his ex-wife and her friend 12 years ago, is to appear in court in Las Vegas on Wednesday for an arraignment hearing.

The charges against Simpson and three other men were detailed in a criminal complaint filed by Nevada prosecutors in Clark County on Tuesday, following the fallen icon's arrest on Sunday in connection with an alleged armed robbery.

Simpson and the men have been charged with seven felony offences: conspiracy to commit kidnapping; conspiracy to commit robbery; first degree kidnapping with use of a deadly weapon; burglary with a deadly weapon; robbery with a deadly weapon; assault with a deadly weapon and coercion with a deadly weapon.

The four men have also been charged with the misdemeanor offence of conspiracy to commit a crime.

If convicted on the most serious charges Simpson would face several years, possibly decades, in prison.
