  • Things you don't want to hear

Since the theft of the broken down washer machine this Tuesday it didn't take long for comet to send a threatening letter.

    Our Reference: 160007269

    Dear Mr XXXXXXX

    HOTPOINT WT400 WASHING MACHINE £349.99

    ¬

I have been informed that the above product was left outside and has been taken by someone other than Comet. Comet did not authorise you to leave the item outside. In accordance with Torts (Interference with Goods Act 1977 (2) (2), you were the bailee of the goods and as such had a duty of care for this product.

As Comet did not therefore consent to the disposal of these goods we are entitled to recover the retail value of the goods detailed above from you.

Payment can be made in full by cheque or postal order payable to Comet Group plc and posted using the envelope provided. Payment must be received in this office within 7 days. If you wish to discuss alternative payment arrangements please contact me on 01275336102.

If payment is not received within 7 days this matter will be referred to our Head Office who will consider pursuing repayment through the County Court or Comet's approved debt recovery company 'Grosvenor'.

Well I did get permission from Comet to leave by our side gate at the top of our drive. Any I've written back saying get lost as I had permission and that it's unfair to ask for the full amount as the machine was effectively scrap.

Can't I store the machine where I like on my land????

When I read the title, I was thinking things like...

"Grandpa, is it supposed to hurt?"

              No?

I was thinking more along the lines of "Honey, I'm a man."

@The Pit: Are they allowed to do that? Seems rather unfair. You store your washer on your land, someone steals it, then technicall if they dump it, it should be their prblem, of course, you have to report it stolen.

                    10 bucks no i don't think so.

I reported it stolen as soon as I got back from work. Got the crime number as well.
They're just trying it on. One of the reasons why I reported it stolen.

If it was stolen from your land, then your insurance company is responsible for payment.

Nope not covered as it has to be secured just checked it out. But as the Insurance company said Comet shouldn't have agreed to collect the machine from the place I suggested.
