  • Who here is Overclocking?

I recently setup a new rig and for the first time since I started building computers, I have seriously started overclocking. The core2duos are amazing!

    I have an E6600 running at 425x8=3400 - 1.5v. I bought some Mushkin Redline xp2-8000 and I am running that at 1063MHz w/ 4-4-4-9 - 2.35v
    I'm also running my 8800gts at 600/852(default 500/800).

This is Orthos tested, but i haven't run memtest yet. 3DMark06 finishes no problem.

Bottom line is, I am running ths setup 24/7 and I have no problems with Vista 64-bit. I am extremely happy with this setup.

Just curious if others are doing the same or similar? I know a few of you are running some other c2d chips.

    32M SuperPI time = 14.29
    Sandra memory bandwidth = 7600/7527
    3DMark06 = 9730
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

May well when I get a quad in August. My current A64 3400+ (S754) doesn't want to know.

        Yup.

        Main rig below in sig.

SuperPi 2M = 1min (the C2D are orders of magnitude better...)
Everest Ult. Ed. 2006 RAM Read/Write = 8434/5920 (will DL latest Sandra and see if different)

        Haven't done the 3dm06 yet...not installed it.

This machine can play Stalker comfortably at 1680x1050 with 16xAF and the only thing down from Max. in the settings is the grass distance (50-75%), and the grass shadows.
Totally fluid, no problems even after 6 hours on the trot. With the GPU fan at 100% all the time the temp never goes above 68C after many hours.

Sandra v11.17b = 6774/6769 (much lower than with everest v3...)

Last bit about Sandra for comparison:

            arith
            20872 mips
            17667 mflops

            mmedia
            Int x8 iSSE2 54756 it/s
            FP x4 iSSE2 62738 it/s

Pretty sucky compared to C2D Architecture, especially the Quads.

E6400 O/C'd to 2.8 on stock voltage and timings, running 24/7 without any hiccups.
I have had it to 3.2, but had to modify voltages and timings. Dropped it back to 2.8 for any possible stability issues.
Radion X800XT running at stock settings.
Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!

Wow, based off Evildead666 and Admirals 8800GTS scores, looks like I can go higher!

Nice scores there, Admiral. What mobo and cpu voltage?

gt40, you can safely go to 3.2 on higher voltages. What voltages were you at and what are your idle/load temps?

Also, maybe you guys cna answer a few questions for me?

                    1. What is a strap change? This is new terminology to me. I know it has something to do with after you go over a certain fsb, the "strap" changes to prevent higher speeds of???? Of what? Is this right?

                    2. BIOSes are now allowing manual control of tighter timings for memory. Is there a place I can read about understanding these tighter timings? How can I find out what good timings are for my memory? Here are my timings now.

                      used to OC my c2d e6300 to 2.1ghz but I don't OC the C2Q Q6600 quad I got now

                        Asus P5B-E (P965), 1.5V for CPU

For the 8800GTS, Gainward equips the 640MB version with 1.1ns memory so I went straight for 1000MHz. I haven't tried other settings, maybe I can get another 20MHz from both core and memory but I'm happy with what I have

Damn, thats 2Ghz DDR, thats very very fast for a GTS !!!!

I just looked around, and the average most frequent stable clocks were 621/900.
I tried for a few hours at that setting, and its fine.
                          Stock cooling running at 100%.

I cranked my 8800GTS up to 620/900 and ran that way for the past 24 hours playing HL2, Oblivion, GRAW, TM United and a few other games with no problems at all. Impressive!

I think I'll try and get my E6600 to 3.5GHz and my memory to run at 1100MHz with 4-4-4-9 timings. If I can achieve that, it will be a great day
