haven't seen those for a LONG time....
    i suggest a abit bp6 whichc is for celerons...it'll b around $400 canadian....
    if you buy C366's...
then you can clock it to 550 then you have a dual machine running 1100...
but ask yourself y do u need a dual machine most of the programs only support 1 chip your 2nd chip will b wasted and only creates heat....

"most of the programs only support 1 chip your 2nd chip will b wasted and only creates heat..."

What programs are you talking about? Remember, this is the General Hardware Forum - not everybody here has to have Win98SE, DX7, and all the latest games... In most every major application designed for NT (and for Linux), you will see a definite performance boost with a dual configuration. Application suites like Office support dual CPUs. The performance boost will not be 100% faster than a single processor, but I've seen it run 70% faster on my dual machine (encoding MP3s). In fact, even with games that run under NT (and don't support dual processors) you will see a slight performance boost because the other processor can offload system threads and free up more power on the processor the game is running on. Granted, this will not be big, but it is present. Also, a lot of new games are supporting dual CPUs in preparation for Win2000. I know Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament do - I have looked at my processor usage in NT Task Manager, in both games the two CPUs are both loaded pretty heavily, too heavily for it just to be offloading sytem threads.

I guess the biggest thing to think about for now is this: 1 CPU gives you Win9x and any game, or 2 CPUs gives you WinNT (or Linux) and limited games.

The next thing to think about is Win2000 Professional, dual CPUs, DX7, and all the games you want...
      My baby...

      Matrox Millenium G200 8 MB SGRAM - Bios 2.6-20
      2 Creative Labs 3D Blaster Voodoo2 12 MB (SLI...)
      Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!
      Klipsch ProMedia v.2-400
Quantum Viking 4.5 GB UW SCSI (weak...)
      Creative Labs PC-DVD Encore 2X

            Lol, dual P5s...

430HX boards are ollld...no modern stuff.

A good 400 celeron would likely beat them even for most multithreaded stuff, and multitasking.

If you want to try dual "cheap" go BP6. A little more, dual slot1 BX...but cpus aren't as cheap, and if you go celerons you should have gotten bp6.

For 'find at computer resale/show' look for a old dual p-pro board.

Two months ago (local) a dual 166/512k with 440FX based onboard UW, Lan and Sound, and 64mb edo was $170. Not too bad. Throw in an empty at case, add some spare hd and vid and you have a nice personal linux router/webserver etc. Would work pretty damn well. 440KX and dual 180/256k for $50 more...but not really any better features, and less L2.

He had a quad 450GX too, with cpu daughtercard, but NOT cheap. Blah.
