A couple of guys I know use local-tel and get poor performance at times, ie during the free connection periods. (6pm+ and w/e)

Try connecting to freeserve or netscape and see if the performance improves.
Everything I say is true apart from that which is not

I tried screaming.net a few months ago to see how it would go but the service is very poor. Luckily i didn't change my telephone over to local-tel so i just stopped using it. You just have to look at the connection dialog box to see that the service is crap, it gives 15 tries to connect to the net. Claranet, my service provider, has 3 tries but usually connects first time. Also with claranet you can connect to the 'net all weekend for nothing but you still pay about £11 a month for the privalidge.

Also try you modem makers web page to upgrade to v90 specification, i did that with my cheap and nasty Mrmodem modem and i now connect to the net at 115,200 bps but realistic speeds are alot slower.

      Hoped that help some..
