  • Ye olde SB Live!

    Hi all,

Cast your minds back to 2000 or so when the Live! was all the rage. I had a SB Live! 1024 (OEM card, but has the yellow digital output). Now back then when I used this card I made up a cable to give me the digital coax out and I'm sure there was some driver hack that made it think it was a 5.1 or something.

Now anyway my brother's onboard sound on his Dell PC is playing up and so I dug out this old Live! card to give to him, but I want to get all the outputs working if possible.

So, anyone remember what I'm on about? Also need the pin out to make up the coax digital output.

    Cheers!
    Steve

But that's the big 40 pin header on the card, I only need the digital out headphone style jack on the back plane of the card

    Ah also got this: http://alive.singnet.com.sg/tech/digital-io.htm

so answered my own post apart from the driver thing - will install later and see what happens

Oh so the card only ever did 5.1 in passthrough (from a DVD for example), and 4.0 otherwise http://alive.singnet.com.sg/tech/faq/

Yeah that card didn't have a 5.1 digital surround decoder processor so its just passthrough from that big header, or downmix to the analog front/rear outputs.

I think I've got a 5.1 you can have Steve. Gimme a PM if you are interested.
