  • Need help with G400 and DVD-MAX...

SO, having done some cleaning thru my PC bits and bobs, i've decided to build a machine for video viewing.

    Specs are as follows:
    Duron 1800MHz
    NF2-Raid Mobo (+Audio)
    2x256Mb DDR333
    G400-MAX AGP
    DVDRom
    20Gb HDD

The main screen is a tiny 7in CRT, black and white, just to set up the video and run it (640x480).
The output screen is an iiyama VisionMaster 1451 a 19in CRT (colour).
I'm not using the second screen for desktop viewing, although I can set it to Clone mode.
The "secondary display" setting in the Dualhead tab is set to 1280x960@85Hz.
This way i get colour, and a choice of screen settings...

DVD-MAX seems to work on the CRT, I just need some pointers...

    1. Is it obligatory to be in Win98 for DVD-MAX or not ?
    2. is 1280x960@85Hz too much for the Maven chip to cope ?
    3. Will it actually scale to that res/refresh or not ? if not, what res/refresh is optimal ?
    4. Does DVD-MAX just work best on a TV with the S-Video out ?

My crappy 14in telly can't seem to pick up the Scart RGB signal, only the composite one, and its in black and white...

I want to be able to play AVI/MPG/MPEG files, some of which are 320x240 and below...just trying to find the best quality, and do something with this G400

    Cheers

    Jez

OK, what about if someone can just tell me if I have to use Win98 or not for DVD-Max to work ?

I can't remember if i kept on using it after I moved to Win 2K when it came out, and 98 is a bit of a bummer to set up for the network and sharing, compared to the more recent OS's...

Hmmm, so i decided to install XP SP2 an try with that.
DVD-Max is present, and can be activated, but, the graphical quality seemed much much better under 98, and it worked every time. In XP, the image is fullscreen, but not aligned, and basically, just looks "not right"...I can get it full screen, but i'm sure its not fully functional...

I think that in XP, it doesn't use the Maven chip properly...doesn't seem de-blocked enough compared to the tests i did in 98 (same file, Millennium S02e20 320x240 div3)

Back to 98SE then, and try again....
