    As we have seen from the Anandtech article 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo is enough to decode H.264 without ANY help from the video subsystem.

    The next round of price breaks will make that a $183 processor.

    Did they test any slower CPUs? I seem to remember the "heart" of some HD-DVD player is simply P4...
    Together with CoreAVC the requirements shouldn't be that high, I guess...

      Only the E6700 could decode the toughest scene in X3 (bitrate-wise) without aid from the video card and without hitting 100% max cpu usage at any time.

        OTOH http://www.behardware.com/news/8117/...purevideo.html shows that there is much more efficient software solution than PowerDVD
