  • Adtron 160g SSD flash drive

    These things are getting big enough to be useful;

    Story...

    Adtron product page

    February 23, 2007 It was just a month ago that we were reporting on the sudden jump in Solid State Disk (SSD) capacity with a 32 GB disk appearing nine months ago, then a 64 GB and a 128 GB drive being shown at CES behind closed doors. With the price of NAND flash dropping quickly, SSDs are continuing their rise with the news that Adtron is offering immediate availability of its latest and most advanced generation of the Adtron Flashpak Family of products, including the IDE and Serial ATA (SATA) flash disk models, the I25FB and A25FB, respectively. The products include the industry’s highest capacity 2.5” SLC NAND flash disk drives at 160 GBytes.

    Sweet! And with laptops it'll save on power and it'll be less suceptible to vibrations!

        The old version of this drive cost $3k. It appears to be an industrial grade drive, thus the more thanthe rest price.

                Ooohh!!!!

                Lower access times, less power consumption, no worries about vibrations, meaning I could leave my laptop turned on in my packsack all the while doing all sorts of computations!!

                I WANT ONE NOW!!!!!

                    When can I get one?
                    How much do they cost?
                    Why aren't they available yet?

                    I want one now!!! And in your case, you want MANY!!!

                    But building a RAID array with a bunch of them would probably give me a woody.

                        No my friend, that's megabyte not megabit. If it was megabit do you think we'd (Doc an I) be so excited?

                            Ouch, sounds like one drive will cost 15000$ or more.

                              And they won't fit in a laptop because they're too high.

                              Wait just one or two years more and we'll have those at enthusiast prices.
