I tried writing C code on my tablet. Forget it!

Hilarious, but even more so because in this case, he's using the wrong tool for the job - speech recognition wasn't designed for 'typing' code. That's ignoring the fact that unless he's a horrid typist, he's wasting time.

            Still, amusing.

I was impressed by how well it picked up "delete info".

                  That reminds me.

A friend (a doctor) told me about a friend of his (also a doctor) who tried out one of the first Newtons. He wrote "consider the implications" on the screen.

The Newton interpreted it as "Charles the Nigerian"

Both the video and the Newton story are hilarious.

Is the delete function really that good?

Exactly. Plus, he kept saying other stuff for no reason (ie, "thank you"). So some of it was his own dumb fault.

Well, one thing I noticed in the video is that the recognition engine seems to be very good. If it does that well without training, then it's pretty amazing. (realize though that my last experience was with Dragon Dictate )

The problem was the interpretation of the recognized words. I think there's also a problem in that control and dictation language are used at the same time, unlike Dragon which had a "menu mode" and a "dictaion mode". Also, the dictation system is quite obviously not meant for coding, since capitalization is nowhere near that of natural language.

I suspect that the guy also didn't know all the "keywords" to modify input. It's possible that saying "all caps info" would have typed INFO instead of info or Info.

Also, as Jesse pointed out already, coding is not speech, it is not language, and tools aren't made for it. Ever tried to dictate code to a buddy over the phone? It takes ages. Code isn't made to be spoken. How do you pronounce "char"?
