  • New Years Resolutions

    Results from last year:
Last year I had two that stick out in my mind. The first was to figure out what to do with my hair - its starting to thin out (and I'm only 20!) - during the summer I shaved it all off - and love it! Think Lex Luther.
The other was going to the gym and putting on weight. At the beginning of '06 I was just under 180lbs (at 6'2). I wasn't exactly a string bean, but I was far from where I would like to be. Got myself a gym membership and I've averaged about 2.5 times a week for the entire year - very proud of myself. I also ate a LOT more this year. I exceeded my expectations - I guess weight gain is pretty easy when you have a lot of height (and youth). Today at the gym I weighed in at 204lbs (I would say about 18-21lbs muscle, 4-7 fat gain.)

    This year:
I want to level off my weight to a nice 215 or so.
About a month ago I finally decided what I want to major in (Psychology) - right now I am 2.5 years into University. Hopefully I will be able to focus on my school work better than in previous years now.

As for things happening in '07 (nothing to do with myself), I would like to see:
New Matrox card - capable of running the newest games.
    Decline in reality shows.
US "finishing" their job in Iraq. (whatever that means)
Availability of Wii's! + larger # of quality Wii games. (a good FPS would be nice).
    Q9450 + TRUE, G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2, GTX 560, ASUS X48, 1TB WD Black, Windows 7 64-bit, LG M2762D-PM 27" + 17" LG 1752TX, Corsair HX620, Antec P182, Logitech G5 (Blue)
    Laptop: MSI Wind - Black

I will not smoke, not even a single puff, until 1. 1. 2008.
      I'll try and study harder.
I'll try and lose weight and gain form.
I'm going to find a flat.
There's an Opera in my macbook.

I've kept the same ones for at least 25 years:
        1. I shall not capture butterflies in January (of course, that is now possible since I moved here, but I've managed to keep the resolution for all 12 months, not just January, ever since I first decided on it)
        2. I shall not throw snowballs in July (this one I did break on one occasion; my daughter started snowballing me above Saas Fee at 3,600 m altitude and, of course, I had to riposte). It is easy to keep here, as it's difficult to find snow when the temp is hovering around 40°C; the skiing season on Mount Olympus here ends in late February.

            Funny You Should Say That

            Lead Vocal: The Flying Pickets

Well it's funny you should say that
            It's a most peculiar thing
Yes it's funny you should say that

I was talking to a man
And I saw he wore a ring
Yes it's funny you should say that

And I told him of a dream
Where I caught and ate a whale
Then I woke up feeling hungry, he said
            Thats a curious tale
For a dream contains a wish
In this case a giant fish
As the pressure you were under
Might have woken you from slumber
To relieve the pangs of hunger
You just dreamed yourself a dish

Well it's funny you should say that
            It's a most peculiar thing
Yes it's funny you should say that

For I also met a man
And he also wore a ring
Yes it's funny you should say that

And I told him of a dream
Where the sun was at its height
But my toes were blocks of ice, he said
            Let me get this right
You are tall and so your feet
            Must protrude beyond the sheet
            While you sleep they're unprotected
            Their discomfort is detected
And it's just as I suspected
You were trying to dream some heat

But there are six white wolves
In the dead of the night
On the branch of a tree

And they have such big eyes
            And they're shining so bright
            All the better to see

And they have such big ears
            All the better to hear
            And they're listening to me

And they have such sharp teeth
            All the better to eat
            And they're looking at me

Well it's funny you should say that
            It's a most peculiar thing
Yes it's funny you should say that

I was speaking to a man
            But I don't recall a ring
Yes it's funny you should say that

And I told him of a dream
Where I turned into a snail
and he said: hmm, it is simplicity
            To follow such a trail
For this creature takes his shell
            Anywhere that he may roam

But work must keep you on the move
You fear your wife may disapprove
So like the snail you just remove
            And take along your home

If I step on a line
            Something will happen
There are rats in a jar
            Something terrible will happen

Harmonic 2-Part harmony with following wolves vers extract and the above verse
            intermeshed:
And they have such big eyes
            And they're shining so bright
            All the better to see

And they have such sharp teeth
            All the better to eat
            And they're looking at me

Tell me what they want (echo)
Tell me what can they be (echo)
Tell me what does it mean (echo)
Tell me what do you see (echo)

            Fantasia
            Nothing is what it seems
            Fantasia
A world that's made out of dreams
            Fantasia
            Nothing is what it seems
            Fantasia

Well it's funny you should say that
            It's a most peculiar thing
Yes it's funny you should say that

Though I haven't met this man
So he didn't wear a ring
It's so funny you should say that

If I told him of a dream
Where I turned into a hat
That was round and made of fur, would he say
            Nothing wrong with that
As I sit here in my chair
I can see your growth is spare
            And it is my observation
That this caused you much frustration
            So you dreamed a consolation
To replace the loss of hair

I'm going to be a mother (laughter)
I'm going to have a child (laughter)

Harmoic 5-Part with all prior verses except the main Fantasia chorus and a new
            part:
There are wolves in the tree
            But the tree never grew
There are rats in the jar
            But the curse wasn't true

            Fantasia
            Nothing is what it seems
            Fantasia
A world that is made out of dreams
            Fantasia
            Nothing is what it seems
            Fantasia
A world, that's made, out of, dreams
"They say that dreams are real only as long as they last. Couldn't you say the same thing about life?"
