  • This may be a dumb question but........

I've got 192 megs of ram.Whenever an application shows the total physical amount of memory,it shows 192+ but as far as available physical memory it normally shows
    about 80 to 120megs.
Where is the rest of my ram?

Don't sweat it this is normal. Windows sets things up in your physical memory to make your system operate more quickly.

Matt - very funny! It's like during the IE4 install you get the 'Setup is optimizing your system for better performance' Like yeah!

          Ok guys..now I'm confused.Does windows
use ram in proportion to the amount of ram available? My last computer had 40 megs
and it ran w95 and most applications just fine.

Maggi and Steve: I know, I know Their definition of optimization is different from the rest of the world's.

Surfer Dude: Yes, the more memory you add, the more memory windows decides it will use.
