Lowest in the US was -62.2C (-80F) in Prospect Creek, Alaska in 1971.

Lowest in the lower 48 States was -54.4C (-66F) in Riverside, Wyoming in 1933.

Lowest in Michigan was -46.1C (-51F) in a town called Vanderbilt in 1934.

City with the lowest mean temp. is Fraser, Colorado at .27C (32.5F).

I'm sure places in Sweden near/above the Arctic Circle can hammer those numbers into the ground.

            CYPRUS
            Nicosia -6 45.6* * a very dubious 46.7C also recorded in July 1888
            Larnaca -3 41.1
            Kyrenia -4 41
            Prodromos -7.8

The lowest I've recorded is -1.9°C and the max was about 42°C ±1°C, since I started my weather station about a year or so ago; I'm inland at an altitude of 300 m.

Note re above figures: Nicosia is inland but Larnaca and Kyrenia are on the coast, all at low altitude. Prodromos is at ~1700 m but Troodos (our skiing resort) is higher with recods at 39°C and -10°C. Records are not kept for Mt. Olympus (~1950 m) but it is close to Troodos and about 100 m higher.

Last year in January we've had max daytime temp. -27 C for a week or so...and some people say this year can be worse...not only climatologists (there's supposedly quite reliable way of predicting how tough the winter will be, some people claim. Involving bees, and how good they prepare for winter. Father of my buddy has them. They prepare even better than last year, he doesn't even remember for them to prepare that good)

When I was a kid on the farm we had electric battery heaters (like a heavy duty heating pad), coolant and engine oil warmers in all the vehicles.

Nothing makes your day like the car/truck not working because the battery discharged to zip, the anti-freeze turned into a slushie or the 0W-30 engine oil was the consistency of axle grease
