If this one doesn't win Scorsese an Oscar, then there's something seriously wrong with Oscar.

The pictures may not be pretty, the politics may reek of offensive reality and the testosterone may run at near flood level, but there's a tactile immediacy and constant streak of pulsing fear in this film that lifts it to the level of modern epic.

Oh, and by the way, if you like tough-guy talk, "The Departed" even surpasses Scorsese's brilliant "Goodfellas." In fact, this movie is an actor's paradise, offering an absolute parade of juicy parts to those in attendance. And fear not, the actors bite into their roles with such grand relish they draw applause for even the most insignificant lines.

Apparently the movie is a remake of a Hong Kong movie called, Internal Affairs:

Though Scorsese claims not to have seen the original, people I know who has seen both say there are identical scenes. Would be interesting to compare them.

If he had the original shooting script it could seem like he'd seen it.

Just got back from seeing this. It's a pretty engrossing film from start to finish. Just excellent work all round, and the whole theater thought so too. This was one of those where people applauded at the end.
