  • ATI's AVIVO H.264 acceleration WORKS!

Used several HD H.264 clips including 720p and 1080i and all play back at full frame rates with good quality and a CPU utilization of ~24% on the AMD dualcores (edit: for 1080i).

Read on the Canopus forum that another guy had tried playing similar clips with an NVIDIA GF4-Ti4200 and got about 1 frame every 5-10 seconds. He upgraded an older ATI to an X1600 Pro 512m and got the same results I'm getting but his Intel 3.06 was scoring ~30% avg.

Granted newer NVIDIA's GF 6/7 & 6150 have it too, but way to go ATI

Just for comparison, my 720p video clips in DivX 5.2.2 at 6000 KBps, 1280x720, 25fps, are 25% on my X2 (antivirus and stuff on), and tested yesterday evening on a basically standard XP3200+ with 1Gb DDR 333, and it was 75% cpu usage (AV on and such, all taskbar proggies running).

Looking at those %...it seems that even computer with Athlon XP 1700+ and Geforce 6600GT or 7300 should handle any H.264...
