  • Finally (hopefully) getting a new graphics card...

    This one here at DABS

I cant buy it direct, so i've asked my bro if he could buy it for me, and i'll, like, send him a cheque...

I'm hoping to max it out a bit for the ultimate, final, AGP system, before going the whole hog to PCIe...

      Whoopee!! Its been done.

Just have to wait for delivery from my bro now...

24 pipes vs 16, should be worth the final punt...

Uhmm...wouldn't it be just as fast but a bit cheaper, or faster for the same price when going with PCIe card and new motherboard? (even when not taking into account selling old mobo) At least that's the impression I have from local prices...

Probably, but i'm really happy with my mobo/cpu/memory that i have now, and changing the mobo just seems like too much hassle atm...

For my next PC, i'll be changing the whole lot, but i want to keep this one for as long as possible too..

And i can flog the 6-month old 7800GS no probs...

I'm currently *testing* PCIe on my Intel setup, but i only use that for encoding, so i only have a 6600GT PCIe on it...

PCIe really comes into its own with the high bandwidth stuff; HD/HDV playback etc. You really see the difference when editing. AGP just couldn't keep up but PCIe just rips along. I've been using ATI 1xxx's and the Matrox APVe.
