  • IMI Tavor

Seen two Givati soldiers with Tavor rifles today while going for Falafel.

One of them didn't mind me asking some questions about it(I've fired Galil and M16), so I've asked him how was it compared with the M16.
Since he got it only three weeks ago, he's still more used to the M16 mechanism, and getting used to the bullpop design does take some time and practice. Apparently, all Givati soldiers will get a Tavor at bootcamp so they should be as effective with it as older soldiers were with the M16.
The good points he had for the weapon are that it's as accurate, if not more than his previous M16 (short version) and that this rifle feels like it weights less (allowing to be held and even fired with only one arm) due to the different weight distribution.
Bottom line is that he's really happy with his new rifle and once he gets used to it, he'll prefer using it over the M16/M4.
The rifle looks rather futuristic to those of us used to the AK/M16 looks (Uzi simply looks old and weird).

Tavor with extra equipment installed (flashlight etc)

    Sniper version

    Micro Tavor (Silencers below)

    9mm Tavor

    M203Pi (40mm) version. Total length 80cm, weights 5kg.

    MARS: Multi-purpose Aiming Reflex Sight
    Integral part of the Tavor.

Since the MARS is part of the weapon, it never goes out of calibration. Any additional optics or lighting enhancements go behind the MARS, so your sights are always clibrated.

Yes, I too would like an automatic weapon with silencers. Why? Um.. personal use.
