  • Camera Memory card sizes

How does one tell if a digital camera supports a certain size memory card?

    Am I missing something?

I'd try asking around at the dpreview forums.

Normally, card limitations are in the manual. But the manual here states "it only is compatible with Canon SD cards. It may work with other cards, but Canon makes no guarantees on this".

Idiots. Nikon does the same thing: up to a few years ago, the only official supported cards were Lexar and Sandisk, but only up to 128 MB - which is ridicilously small for a DSLR.

Still, I would expect 2 GB not to be too much of a problem (FAT16 is still possible). My guess is that all recent cameras (in this model range) will support even FAT32. I believe the initial SD card problems (controller had to support the size of the cards) have also long gone.

Best to ask on the dpreview forums (there are bound to be users of this camera with large cards).
