P650 and DVI failure

    P650 and DVI failure

    Hi,

    My P650 and Samsung 173P LCD stopped working together over DVI, this was over two months ago, I was too busy to bother then so I switched to analog but I want digital back!

    Has anyone else had this problem before?

    I have updated the BIOS of my P650 a few times, just tried the most recent. I have also bought a new DVI cable but no luck there.

    I have two Samsung 173Ps and just bought a new Viewsonic LCD and I don't want that monitor's DVI port to fail.

    I tried the tool but it didn't work.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Do you know which is at fault?

    Have you tried a different graphics card?

    I have a P650 and 193P

    I had no DVI display but that was due to the fact i plugged it into the wrong output.

      IIRC hot swapping from VGA to DVI doesn't work, you have to power down the PC then swap the cable for it to detect the correct output.
      When you own your own business you only have to work half a day. You can do anything you want with the other twelve hours.

        I have powered down the computer and monitor and tried that.

        I'm also trying the Samsung on another machine with an ATI 9200 with DVI today. So far, plugging it into the DVI port, powering on gets nothing so I've switched to analog and I'm updating the ATI drivers.

        I'll test my other 173P on a different vid card later today.

          It is very likely the EDID for the DVI port is corrupted, which would make the display unrecognizable to the graphics card (any graphics card).

          Try running Moninfo (free, ~200kb) on the display, as follows:

          Boot up with your Viewsonic on the primary port, and the Samsung on the secondary, so you can see what you're doing. Run Moninfo, then post the content of the moninfo.ini file that MonInfo automatically creates in MonInfo folder.

          If its a corrupt EDID, it will be obvious - and correctable.

            Thanks for the feedback, I'm sorry I haven't been updating this thread frequently.

            I will try the moninfo software when I can.

            I also have another abnormality. This is a pic of my Asus SK8V bootscreen.



            My boot-up and bios screens never resize when I use the matrox P650. This used to be the case under DVI and it is the case under analog.

            I have to plug my PCI G100 in to access the BIOS. I always thought the resizing was managed by the samsung panel. It works in analog perfectly running off the g100 but not on my p650.

            I'm going to try to solve this problem or try to return my panel, it's two years old but it should be under warranty, I guess/hope. Thanks for the help thus far.

              Good news is that one of my 173P displays works on the matrox using DVI, the original one doesn't.

                I'm still trying to get this fixed, I've tried google but it hasn't flushed out the dummies approach to fixing this.

                I don't know if it is all the monitor's fault. I have swapped video cards to a Matrox G550 and now my BIOS screen resizes perfectly across the Analog RGB connector so maybe there was a problem with my P650 after all.

                DVI doesn't work with the G550 though, does anyone know how to fix the EDID?

                  Ok so I have got DVI working now with my G550 and the boot logo comes up fine. I have taken my P650 and used it with my Viewsonic and the DVI works so all seems well. But I still have a boot logo problem same as above only this time on an ASUS A8V.

                  Does anyone know why this artifact exists?

                    I've fixed my problem, I thought I'd update in case anyone else has the same. I used the system color fix and system logo fix programs included with one of the bios programs. It seems there is some issue with asus motherboards and matrox P series cards that was discovered a long while ago and posted in the matrox support forums.

                    Good luck to anyone with the same problem.
