  • Questions about Marvel etv g450 and vs AIW

Hi, i want to buy a card w/ tv input and some hardware encoding and there are only 2 cards that go into my price range.

Radeon AiW and Marvel eTV g450

Radeon beats Marvel in 3d hands down but this is not the most important aspect to me.

So, i have couple of questions.

Some say that Marvel G450 has hardware Mjpeg support, is tha true?

Comparing visual quality to radeon and marvel (in dvd, video capture, etc), who will win? (no BIASED opinnions please, answer this question only if you've seen Radeon AIW in action)

I've heard that there are lots of issues w/ Marvel in W2k (the computer is running windowsXP actually)

How will Marvel perform in video capture, encoding w/ the following system specs, and is there anything that is not compatible?

    Athlon 650
    Fic SD-11 (maybe Abit KA7)
    256mb ram
30 gig 7200 maxtor hdd (ata 33 or 66 w/ abit) If that's a problem i can theoretically buy a ide controller that supports ATA100
Soundblaster PC128 (or maybe guillemot fortissimo)
    Western Digital IE1934 card.

Also are there any features that marvel offers that can help me with DV editing?

    Thanks

    <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size="2">Hi,
Does the Marvel capture in standard MJPEG or Matrox MJPEG (DMB1) format?

Neither, it captures directly into Mpeg2 format via Ligos software codec.

What is the maximum data rate that the card can handle?

No bearing on this card as all capture/editing/playback is done thru software.

Does it overlay the image on the screen perfectly (The DC10 does not)?

In the video window or out to the tv?

Does the marvel suffer as the rainbow runner did, from an annoying pause when initialising MJPEG video playback?

No pause due to software codec.

Does it suffer from the same Jerky PAL output as the Millennium?

Yes. The next display driver that will support our capture driver is going to address it.

This was taken from the Matrox official forum.

As stated above, card does everything thru hardware which means it doesn't do any hardware encoding (where's mpeg2 hardware encoding?)

Is there support for mjpeg at all?
    blah blah blah
