  • NASA Cargp Launch Vehicle gets Saturn V style tanks...

    CaLV's tank will be33 feet in diameter vs. the originally planned 27.5 ft, holding 1 million pounds of extra fuel, and will have a cluster of FIVE modded Rocketdyne RS-68 engines;

    Lift to low Earth orbit:

    Space shuttle & Delta IV: ~23 metric tons

    CaLV: >100 metric tons to orbit

    Hmmm...exactly what ">100" means is unknown as of yet, I presume? Anyway, it means this booster will be more powerfull than Energia configurations that flew and possibly more powerfull than Saturn V...
    PS. I wonder if/when it'll achieve the LEO capability of most powerfull Energia configuration...

      I've read reports that its LEO capacity could be as much as 120 metric tons, making it one formidable SOB. This is one I'd go to see launched.
