  • G800?

    Another qoute from " http://www.xbitlabs.com/cgi-bin/arch...ry=1&view=4-01 "

"Matrox Finally to Deliver Its Baby in May [12:17 pm] Rat
Well, some engineering problems forced Matrox to cancel its unannounced G800, which had been expected to come out last spring. Matrox decided to give up this product. A d this decision is quite logical: who could be willing to buy a card costing as much as GeForce2 Pro and performing as fast as GeForce2 MX? No idea… However, the company can’t make absolutely no product announcements for such a long while. That’s why Matrox did its best to prepare G550, a new product to become a successor to G450 but using some ideas initially developed for G800. So, G550 will be some kind of low-cost G800, as to Tech Report. Here is quote:

G550 is a single-chip solution featuring the same doubled rendering pipelines, 128-bit DDR support, but only a limited form of T&L. The G550 will, of course, feature Matrox's great eDualHead tech and their renowned 2D clarity.
There are enough facts already proving that G550 will be coming out next month. Of course, it will not cost much, between $150-$200, and its performance should be nearly level with NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS.
It is a really pleasing fact that Matrox is going to resume the manufacturing high-performance 3D solutions and promises to launch a new product in H1 2002, which will become the performance leader at that time. Well, we can hardly believe it, to tell the truth, but still we hope for the better, namely we hope that this Canadian company will be able to compete with NVIDIA."
