  • ATI x700 Pro Black Triangles???

So I built a new PC (specs here ), and I tried running some graphics stuff.

    So far, I ran

    DxDiag (i'm running dx 9.0c)
    Quake 4
    MadOnion's 3DMark 2000
    MadOnion's 3DMark 2001

All of the above (except for dxdiag) would output jittery, glitchy textures and would flash black triangles constantly during rendering. The card is not overclocked, nor is the PCI-E bus, and I was running with the Cat 6.2 drivers from ATi.

So far, here's what I've tried doing to fix it:

-Clocked down my CPU and RAM - no help
-Turned my HT multiplier to x3, which put my bus down to ~875Mhz - no dice
-Forced Vsynch - Helped a LOT, probably cut out 90% of the problems
-Disabled "write combining - no help
-Tried Omega drivers that are a few versions old - no help
-Disabled VPU recover - May have helped, but I honestly don't remember for sure at this point.
-Changed my refresh rate - nada
-Took the card off of Full Hardware acceleration - nothing

I googled, and saw many others with this problem around the net.

Edit: I dug up this thread on the [H]ardforums...I might have better luck with 5.6 drivers...but they won't be easy to find.

Up untill two days ago I had a 9800SE and Flatout had to be run on some pretty basic settings to play smoothly, but it worked. However, once I put in my new X800XTPE I jacked all the settings way up in all my games. When I play flatout now, there is a rather distracting "blurb" of artifacting...

    Any ideas?

I have a Sapphire x700 Pro, and I've never had any black triangles. Send it back (or to Gurm ).
Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

I vote for the latter, but I'm biased!

It's government conspiracy. Better keep it under the radar for now.

            LMAO. You don't have a PCI-E board anyway. :P

It kind of sounds like a hardware fault, but you could try using ati's driver cleaner and then using an older driver or perhaps the driver off windows update.

I would contact the manufacturer and ask them what they think, it seems like its RMA time.

Short of installing my own probe, how could I know? Is there an on die thermal diode on the chip or something?

Some cards come with utilities that let you monitor the temp, maybe yours doesn't come with it, or maybe the card doesn't have a thermal diode.

I just replaced it with the exact same card, and everything works fine. Guess I just got a bad card.
