  • It's a great year to be a metal fan

    Albums coming out this year...

    Metallica (maybe 2007)
Guns & Roses (I know, not real metal, more like hard rock/glam rock)
    Down
    Iron Maiden
    Deftones (Nu Metal)
    Judas Priest
Tool (Some people call them Nu Metal, but I disagree)

...and a few others I can think of right now. I've heard 2 of the 3 leaked songs from the new GnR and it sounds awesome! It actually lives up to the hype IMHO. I suspect that I will like the Down album the best though. Iron Maiden's last album was really good.

Andybody left on MURC that actually like metal? Kruzin likes it, Rags likes it but he hardly posts anymore. Some people like Tool. That's about it I think. Oh, I know that Liz likes some of the newer bands like Glassjaw.
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

Good question, nobody knows yet. Actually, there hasn't even been an official announcement of the new album, but apparently all of the rumours point to an April/May release. I guess we'll know soon enough. The latest rumour is that since it took 10 years to make, (yes I said a decade just in case you haven't been following the GnR saga) they are going to release a 3 CD set. But that really seems very unlike the money hungry recoard companies.

BTW, for a good laugh, listen to this version of Back in Black I couldn't stop laughing hysterically

She was on South Park as well

Yeah, I'm really curious to finally hear the GnR album...my God, if they're actually releasing it this year, what's next, Duke Nukem Forever?

GnR? Let's be honest, it stopped being GnR long ago and has since been Axl N' Axl. Can't say I have any desire to even hear the crap he comes up with now. Wonder if this is the album he's been working on since the breakup of the original GnR...

As far as metal goes, I've lost interest in most of the material coming out these days.

More like Metallicock. St. Anger was perhaps the worst album of all time. It's like "hey look - we forgot how to sing, we forgot how to play, we pissed off so many fans that our bass player quit, and now we're just a-holes!" It made me sad in my pants to listen to that album. Seriously, not a single song was on-key. It's like they were TRYING to sound lousy, in order to "recapture their origins", but even in the early days they were on-time and on-key. So unless they have more of the "Black Album" in them, I'm just not particularly interested. And let's face it - "old" Metallica was boooooooooooring. 12 minute songs with 2 chord changes and moping... well, I outgrew that when I turned 16.

Guns & Roses (I know, not real metal, more like hard rock/glam rock)
JW says it's "Axl & Axl". I disagree. It's more like "Axl & His Therapist". Plus Buckethead. But then again, I think that every G'n'R album since "Appetite for Destruction" has sucked ass. "Use Your Illusion 1 & 2" could have been ONE EP. There were like 5-6 good songs between the two of them, and none of those songs were nearly as good as the weakest song from Appetite. Then they released what... an album of covers? Which, sadly, reused the same song over and over... observe:

We don't need no Civil war... hey, hey, hey hey YEAH

Knock knock knockin' on heaven's door... hey, hey, hey hey YEAH

                  Ick.

                  Down
Y'know, I keep hearing that Down is good. Maybe my problem is that the first time I heard them was at Ozzfest, and they were all drunk, and couldn't play, and the singer started singing a different song and got in a fight with the guitarist.

Or maybe it's that I didn't like Pantera either because... well... it was BORING. Kinda like "Old Metallica". 2 Chord changes over 8 minutes? Dimebag Darrell was an AMAZING guitarist, whose talent was utterly wasted on 2 chords and a bad attitude. So Down, being the logical successor to Pantera... just failed to impress me.

                  Iron Maiden
Now THIS I can get behind. Seriously. Anyone who can kick your ass with metal... AND with a claymore... mad props. LOL! I still like "Somewhere in Time" and "Powerslave" best, though. *sigh*

                  Deftones (Nu Metal)
                  Ok.

                  Judas Priest
Is this some sort of sad aging reunion tour? "Ram It Down" this ain't.

Tool (Some people call them Nu Metal, but I disagree)
                  This I'm looking forward to.

I await the next Linkin Park album, actually. I know, it's sad, but that guy can actually sing. It's half-rap pussy NuMetal, but I still get a kick out of it.

I actually like the songs Frantic, St Anger, The Unnamed Feeling and Some Kind of Monster. I can't disagree with you about the off key singing and lousy production. The good news is Rick Rubin(Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slipknot, Audioslave, SOAD and many, MANY others) is now the producer, so Bob Rock is gone. As far as old Metallica being boring, I have to disagree with you there. We could debate it all day, so I won't say anymore.

Use Your Illusion albums were pretty good, but definitely not as good as Appetite. The album of covers you refer to is GnR Lies. And they had 4 original songs on there and the rest were live covers(well, maybe not all covers, but I think they were). That album was amazing! Have you ever listened to One in a Million?

Civil and Knockin' are great songs in my opinion and they "hey hey hey" you are talking about is what made Axl stand out from everyone else.

Y'know, I keep hearing that Down is good. Maybe my problem is that the first time I heard them was at Ozzfest, and they were all drunk, and couldn't play, and the singer started singing a different song and got in a fight with the guitarist.

Check out Down's website to listen to there songs without them being drunk

Pantera, boring? LMFAO! Dude, you have got to be kidding me, right? And two chords? You don't play guitar, do you?

And Down is not the successor to Pantera.

Now THIS I can get behind. Seriously. Anyone who can kick your ass with metal... AND with a claymore... mad props. LOL! I still like "Somewhere in Time" and "Powerslave" best, though. *sigh*
Did you listen to there last album that came out in 2004? It is really good and sounds like OLD Maiden. I like it better than some of their older stuff.

                    Ok.
Deftones are one of those bands that needs to grow on you. Even longer than others, but once they do, they are a pretty decent band with simple guitars.

Is this some sort of sad aging reunion tour? "Ram It Down" this ain't.
Did you even know that Judas Priest came out with an album last year(or was it the year before?)? And it was good. Not great, but pretty darn good. I like it better than their older stuff.

                    This I'm looking forward to.

I await the next Linkin Park album, actually. I know, it's sad, but that guy can actually sing. It's half-rap pussy NuMetal, but I still get a kick out of it.

Rick Rubin is producing this album too. Now, the fact that you say you think Pantera is boring, but you like this band, makes me scratch my head since most of LP material sounds exactly the same. LP is OK, but nothing great IMHO.

If you want to listen to something new and not boring go check out the new Avenged Sevenfold CD. Actually, I have it up on my website. Go here: http://www.hilliardhouse.net/musiccss.htm

Oh, I used to love it. I own every album. But I listened to "Ride the Lightning" the other day, and it was just ... tedious.

No. Lies was BEFORE Appetite for Destruction, despite not being widely available until afterwards. I refer to "The Spaghetti Incident" or some such. It was horrid.

Civil and Knockin' are great songs in my opinion and they "hey hey hey" you are talking about is what made Axl stand out from everyone else.
No no. You misunderstand. They were decent songs... or rather ONE DECENT SONG. They were, in fact, the same song. LOL!

Check out Down's website to listen to there songs without them being drunk

Pantera, boring? LMFAO! Dude, you have got to be kidding me, right? And two chords? You don't play guitar, do you?
Uhh, actually yes, yes I do. And piano. And I've had several years of theory. Pantera is boooooooring. Sure, you could ARGUE that they're playing 4-5 chords, but when it's just two inversions alternating ... boooooooring!

And Down is not the successor to Pantera.
I thought for sure it was the other two guys, not Dimebag and his brother but the other two? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong people.

Did you listen to there last album that came out in 2004? It is really good and sounds like OLD Maiden. I like it better than some of their older stuff.

I was actually unaware. I've been really turned off of old groups reforming and releasing new albums, 99% of the time it's really really disappointing, and makes me sad... especially in my pants.

Rick Rubin is producing this album too. Now, the fact that you say you think Pantera is boring, but you like this band, makes me scratch my head since most of LP material sounds exactly the same. LP is OK, but nothing great IMHO.
See, I think that our definitions of boring are different. I'm simply not a big fan of 10 minutes of the same powerchords chugged down really low over and over and over. When the riff that carries your song is just "G Minor" chugged over and over and over for a good 30 seconds... that makes me yawn.

If you want to listen to something new and not boring go check out the new Avenged Sevenfold CD. Actually, I have it up on my website. Go here: http://www.hilliardhouse.net/musiccss.htm
I'll check it out. I have a few recommendations as well, but my taste in music tends to piss everyone off. LOL.

If you want to know my idea of "not boring", set aside your distaste for hair metal and listen to the MUSIC on Extreme's "Pornograffiti" album. Take, for instance, "He-Man Woman Hater"... wow. Just... wow.

RTL does sound like an out dated metal album now. I can never get sick of listening to most songs on MOP though. 0

Well, isn't most music just repeating the same chorse over and over again anyways?

You are right, Phil and Rex from Pantera are in Down. But Down never started out as a successor band to Pantera. Actually, it was Phil and Pepper Keenan who started it for fun. I thas just basically blown up since then. So not the successor band in the sense you were thinking.

I see. yeah, well most songs are just the same 3-5 chorse over and over again. Especially metal. You must really dislike a lot of music?

Actually I like a lot of hair metal bands. I grew up on all of that. I was never really big into Extreme but the songs I have heard were all really good. I'll check it out.

I heard some of the songs from the new GnR from Chinese Democracy on the radio a couple weeks ago and it BLEW Major chunks....
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. They played the new GnR single on the radio for all of 2 days before sooooooo many people complained of how $#!!%* it was they took it off the air. Oh ... it's the worse music ever played on air. Worse than country, rap and christian rock COMBINE. Awww ... I feel dirty just thinking about that festering mound of $#!*...

Hopefully Metallica will do something old school GOOD, and not follow in GnR's shoes.
