    I think that these apps will be like word and graphics packages soon. Especially when DVD camcorders catch on. It seems in the industry that DVD Video will be the killer app over the next few years. (Wonder if they were selling WAP last year??)

      Sounds like it to me too. Given digital camcorders going mainstream, and editing apps getting easier to use all the time all that was needed to light the fuse was a digital playback medium with sufficient playback time and quality that would play on a DVD deck. DVD-R sure fits that criteria.

      Tape has maybe 2 years tops. Then about everything will be going to optical disks of one kind or another.

      I myself think DV tapes are also on the short list for replacement. It may be micro-drives or some form of DV optical disk, but something will replace them too.

      FMD technology perhaps? Using blue lasers they are now talking about 1 terabyte of storage per disk or card.
