Some people don't like the shortened versions of their names.

I hate "Jay". We have every intention of making sure that Jacob is never called "Jake". If we had named him Alexander, we had every intention of calling him either Lex or Sasha but NEVER "Al".

So maybe Spielburg just hates "Steve".

Ditto. I go by James, not any variant. Hate Jim, Jimmy, Jimi has been trademarked by Hendrix, and any other variant is bound to receive my ire.

I know you like to shorten names in the US (except you guys ), but as we don't have this tradition in Denmark, there is one thing that has always bothered me; how does William become Bill????

On a sports forum I go to Dick is a censored word even though there are several prominent players and coaches named Dick who never go by Richard. Quite annoying.
