Thunderbird extension for this?

Hello,

The mailclient on my mobile has an interesting option, where it only downloads the last x headers (user selectable!).

Is there an extension for Thunderbird that does something similar?
The reason for asking this, is that I'd like to minimize the amount of traffic on this PC (its only connection to internet is via GPRS).

doesn't Thunderbird offer that as a basic functionality?

"Account Settings -> <select your account> -> Server Settings -> [x] 'Fetch headers only' "

not sure about the user selectable amount of headers as i'm not using TB here.

Nope...
In POP3 there is an option 'Fetch headers only', but it fetches all headers.
