Seeing eye dogs? Helper dogs? Pfffttt....

    How about "Dr. Fido?"

It never ceases to amaze me why it's taken so long for scientists to catch on to what hunters have known for so long: VERY LITTLE escapes a well-trained dogs nose, and that this could have medical applications.

Our dog Spike knows when someone is ill and guards them all day. Spike also seem to know when my pain meds are wearing off; just as I start feeling it he goes into "guard" mode, following me everywhere. Once the next dose starts to take effect he's off doing something else.

Yup! Dogs are being trained to help epileptics: they can detect impending fits several minutes before they happen. And, of course, the "piffometer" of dogs have been trained to suss out explosives/drugs for long enough.
