Note: Anthing after the slash is an updated item on the system. All systems have functioned with the Sound Blaster Live! (Value, 1024, extras, Platinum and 5.1) All systems I use, have used Win 95, 95b, Win 98SE, Win NT 4 and Win 2000. No problems... yet (Touch wood...)

My first old system (That's now dismantled)

        P166 Intel Pentium/ 400Mhz Evergreen Spectra (Amd K6/2)
        32/128MB EDO SIMM RAM
Abit PR5R2 moetherboard (Intel VX430 Chipset)
Matrox Mystique/ Matrox Marvel G200 PCI (All bells and whistles )
Creative Labs SBlive! Value (First gen)/ Createive Labs SBLive! 1024 (With all accessories)
Adaptec SCSI 1410b/ Adaptec SCSI 2940UW
And the usual extras (mouse, keyboard, blah, blah, blah...)

        Second System
        PII 400Mhz Intel/800Mhz PIII Intel
        Gigabyte GA-6BA 440BX Chipset motherboard
        1GB ECC Registered CL2 Micron PC100 SDRAM
Matrox Marvel G200 PCI (All bells and whistles )
Sound Blaster Live! 1024/ Sound Blaster Live! Platinum
        Adaptec SCSI 2940UW
        extras....

        Current System
        Intel 800Mhz PIII
Gigabyte Apollo Pro 266 GA-6RX motherboard
        1GB ECC Registered CL2.5 DDR PC2100 DRAM
Matrox Marvel G200 PCI (Gosh this things got a long lifespan! )
        Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1
        Adaptec SCSI 39160
        even MORE extras...

All chipsets I've used a Creative Sound Blaster Live! on have been working 100% fine. (Maybe I'm just lucky?)

        Hope this helps

            Poll on SBLive combinations

            Hello,

I'm hoping that this thread could be used to gather info on successes/failures with the SBLive. I noticed that some SBLive users are having no problems while others are just having a horrible time.

If you can, please list some basic info about your system (CPU, motherboard, and OS should do OK) along with your personal experiences with the SBLive and G400 (keep your other personal experiences to yourself ). If you want to add more, that is up to you.

So far, here is what I have:

            Machine1
            --------
            Motheroard: Soyo 440BX
            CPU: PII-500
            OS: Win2K
Experiences: Can experience the 'green flash' syndrome, but no sound problems.

            Machine2
            --------
            Motherboard: FIC AZ11
            CPU: Duron 700
            OS: Win98
Experiences: 'Green flashes', sound poping in VS4/5, MSP6 and MGI VW3.5 has no problems.

            Machine3
            --------
            Motherboard: IWill KK266-R
            CPU: Athlon 1.1Ghz
            OS: WinME/Win2K
Experiences: Same sound popping as in FIC AZ11 (WinME only, I did not test under Win2K), zero to acceptable 'green flashes.'

              MB: Abit KT7-RAID
              CPU: AMD Thunderbird 900 MHz
              SCSI adapter: Adaptec AHA-2940U2W
              NIC: 3com 3c905b
Graphics card: Matrox G400 32 MB
              Harddrives:
              2x IBM DTLA-307030 in RAID0 on HPT370 controller
1x IBM DHEA-38451 in VIA controller
              OS: Windows 2000
              Old soundcard: SB Live! Value
New soundcard: Hercules Game Theater XP

With SB Live I had nothing but troubles. Hanging, poping and clicking sound and so on. It was even worse with LiveWare installed (BSODs in LW driver).
With GTXP no problems at all, much richer and clearer sound. Also tried with another non-Creative soundcard and also no problem. So in my case I have to blame Creative.

                MB: EPoX 8kta3
Sound: SB Live Value! (2 years old)
                HDD: 2xMaxtor VL40 40Gb
CD#1: Creative Infra 40x (actaully Panasonic)
                CD#2: Mitsumi CR-4804TE (CD-RW)
                NIC: 2xRealtek

VIA KT133A chipset + 4.29 drivers + sb drivers (latest from SB site).

                No problems with SBLive Value!

                  CPU PIII 650
                  RAM 128 Mb SDRAM
                  M/B Baby Bravo
                  Chipset Intel BX
                  3 IDE HDDs
                  1 CD-ROM
                  1 CD-writer
                  Matrox Marvel G-200
                  SB Live! (original version)
                  1 PCI networking card
1 8 bit SCSI card (for CD writer)
                  WIN 98SE

Not the slightest problem for capture/editing etc. Sound is free of blemishes. Virtually no frame dropping (may drop one or two frames if capturing across a sequence where I stopped tha camera altogether and then restarted it, but I'm sure that this is not the computer's fault, but a change of synch from the tape).

Similar set-up with different Asus M/Bs and P200Pro, PII and PIII CPUs: absolutely hopeless!

Short parts history of things that has been in my computer case:

                    Case history:

                    Second system version:

                    MSI 6163 BX mainboard
                    P3 450 (later 550)
                    256mb cas222 PC100
                    G200 & RRG (later G400)
                    SBLive value
                    13 + 30 quantum 5400 drives
                    OS: win98 --> Win98SE & Win2000 (no capturing in w2k)

Almost perfect captures in MJPEG, no other sound anomalies.

                    Third system version:

                    MSI Irongate AMD motherboard
                    700 & 900 Mhz Athlon classic cpu?s
                    256mb cas222 PC100
                    G400 & RRG
                    SBLive value
                    13 + 30 quantum 5400 drives
                    OS: Win98SE & Win2000 (no capturing in w2k)

No problems at all with capturing or sound.

                    Fourth system version:
                    MSI 6337 Intel815 mainboard
                    Intel FCPGA 800/133 MHz
                    2*128 pc133 cas233
                    G400 & RRG
                    SBLive value
                    2*IBM DTLA 30GB HDD

No problems at all with capturing or sound.

Has then changed motherboard and graphics card twice and still no problems with my SBLive value

If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

Jeremy Clarkson "806 brake horsepower..and that on that limp wrist faerie liquid the Americans call petrol, if you run it on the more explosive jungle juice we have in Europe you'd be getting 850 brake horsepower..."
